5th Grade Voyage on the Mayflower

The 1620 voyage from England to America was more than 3,000 miles and beset by autumn storms. Learn what it was like to live and work on a 17th-century sailing vessel, and relive part of this epic journey. (Scholastic.com)

Start by filling out the "What do I know" section of your KWL chart. List everything you already know about the Mayflower, it's long voyage to America, and what life was like for the pilgrims on the ship. Next add three or more questions that you want answers to about the pilgrims journey to America aboard the Mayflower.

Finally, read some of the interviews of the Ship's Cooper, John Alden and First Mate Robert Coppin (We highlighted some of the more interesting passages). Use the interviews, along with the "Tour the Ship" feature, to fill in the "What did I learn" section of your KWL chart.
