5th Grade Cell Phone Etiquette

Technology is everywhere, surrounding our lives. One example is cell phones. Cell phones are everywhere, yet many people do not understand basic cell phone etiquette. First, check out the cell phone etiquette tips from cellphones.org.
 
Also, here is a helpful article for parents called "Teaching Kids Cell Phone Etiquette"

Now, download the graphic organizer below and label the left side "Not OK to use cell phones when" and the right side "OK to use cell phones when". Next, fill in your chart. Be ready to explain and defend your your responses.

First, watch this short video from NetSmartz.org. Make sure you know what information to never give out while online.


Join Mickey and the rest of the Disney gang at Disney Surf Swell Island. Can you keep the Disney characters safe online and find all of the hidden jewels?

Visit Netsmartz Kids and watch the video "The Boy Who Loved IM". Learn what kind of information you should never give out online. Then watch the Faux Paw and the Dangerous Download video. Faux Paw makes some bad choices while online. Can you figure out the bad choices Faux Paw made?

             

Then visit the Cyber Pigs website and see how many points you can score in the cyber challenge game.

"Like" Hutchings Computer Lab on Facebook!

Hey Hutchings families and friends, "Like Us" on Facebook and receive daily updates from the Hutchings Computer Lab on your Facebook News Feed. Sometimes our students will post on Facebook (after Mr. Horne reviews the post), and sometimes Mr. Horne will post. Simply click the Facebook "Like" button to subscribe. No need to do a friend request.

We will continually post updates and let you know what we have been working on the Hutchings Computer Lab. Every grade level will post updates online (K-5). Yep, even Kindergarten! New Hutchings Podcast Available

The latest episode of The Hutchings Computer Lab Podcast is now up and ready to hear. Episode #5 features our very own Mrs. Wanlass. Get to know Mrs. Wanlass like never before, as she discusses her journey from a young girl playing "principal" with her brothers to becoming the leader of our school.

Hey Hutchings students and families. We need your help. The Hutchings Computer Lab Podcast is looking for your questions to use during our next podcast, "Meet Mrs. Wanlass". Head on over to our podcast's site, and post your question to Mrs. Wanlass in the "comment" section. Make sure to follow our internet safety rules and use your first name only when leaving your comment. So, go ahead. Post a question that you would like Mrs. Wanlass to answer during our next show!

Parents, Don't Forget the AUP

Just a friendly reminder to our Hutchings families that the Howell Public Schools Student Internet AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) needs to be signed and returned to Hutchings so that your child can access the internet here at school. If you need the form, you can download it here. Please note that there are two separate pages that need to be signed and returned.
